I have a single barb and I notice that it was following other fishes. When I surf the net, I knew that a barb is an example of a schooling fish. I know other schooling fish but I want to know other schooling fishes can be bought easily and placed in an aquarium.

yes, barbs need to be in a school of at least 5 or more, if they’re kept in a group of less than 5 most barbs (not just tiger barbs like many people believe) become "nippy" and like to chew on fins of other fish. Some common schooling fish (other than barbs) include danios, white cloud minnows, tetras, cories and rainbowfish (NOT rainbow/redtailed SHARK, yes bala sharks like to be in groups but rainbowsharks(also called redtailed) are HIGHLY intolerant of its own kind, other sharks, or any fish that looks like sharks)

If you have a Barb right now, you should get 3-5 more so it can form a school – if you have room. Other schooling fish are Tetra’s, Angelfish, but they need lots of space. A full-grown Angelfish needs about 10 gallons. Keep in mind, schools are made by three or more fish. Good luck!

Tetras are nice schooling fish. In our tank we have mostly a variety of gouramis, but also have a school of 10 blood fin tetras, and we are getting a few more to add to the school. We also have Bala Sharks, which like to school, but you don’t want too many of them because they can grow pretty big, and depending on the size of you tank, they may not be the right decision. Make sure though if you get any tetras, you always have the top on the tank. They are jumpers. We have lost 2 already because of this. They are very entertaining to watch as well.
